Rusks

Rusks dates back to the late 1600's when the Voortrekkers needed durable food for their long journeys over rugged terrain. They would bake bread, cut it up, dry it and then dunk it into a hot drink for breakfast or a filler during the day. Today, rusks are a staple in most households in South Africa and your morning coffee or tea is accompanied by dunking a rusk (or more) to start your day. Flavours have evolved and there are many choices of 'what to dunk' for a snack any time of the day.
